In this charming family drama/adventure film, the story focuses on themes of belief over skepticism and finding wonder in a jaded world. Divorced and discredited American anthropologist Dempsey (Ted Danson) arrives in Scotland to debunk the legend of the Loch Ness monster. But the charm of the small town and Dempsey's dealings with various locals including innkeeper Laura (Joely Richardson), the local water bailiff (Ian Holm) and research assistant Adrian Foote (James Frain) - all help steer him in a positive new direction.
